Sally prepares to climb mountain for Scope charity
Thursday, 9th November 2000.
A CHIROPRACTIC nursing assistant is starting some serious training at Haverhill Leisure Centre for a 19,000ft charity climb up Mount Kilamajaro next June.
Sally Hiskett, 22, of Eastern Avenue, Haverhill, also needs help from sponsors, as she has to raise at least £2,5000 to take part in the hike in aid of the Scope charity.
Miss Hiskett's employers at the chiropractic clinic at Rose Cottages, Haverhill, have already agreed to sponsor her effort and Haverhill Leisure Centre is working out a special training programme for her.
"IT will be tropical heat at the bottom and arctic conditions at the top. I have done quite a bit of hiking before, but never anything that big. I lived in Cape Town for six months sand hiked up Table Mountain," Miss Hiskett said.
Miss Hiskett decided to take on the challenge to help people from cerebral palsy after seeing television programme about children with the condition.
"They really do have a big struggle and need as much help as possible. While I am quite fit and healthy I can help in some way," she said.
Sponsor forms for Miss Hiskett's hike are available at the Haverhill Leisure Centre.
