Ryall's really flying
Thursday, 31st August 2000.
LINTON VC pupil Michael Ryall fought his way from 15th to third to secure a podium finish in the final of the Formula TKA Festival (for 13 to 16-year-olds) at Kimbolton.
The 13-year-old Castle Camps driver capped an excellent weekend with his final drive, following up on three good shows in the qualifying rounds.
Ryall went from eighth to third in race one and from 22nd to 14th in race two, before being frustrated by traffic as he slipped from 12th to 13th in race three.
The youngster’s heroics were captured by Sky TV cameras as he continued his impressive form in the 35-cart A final, recording his best result to date by taking third in one of the most prestigious karting events of the season.
“This is his second year in this class and he loves his karting,” said Ryall’s mother Sue. “He wants to be another Michael Schumacher or Jenson Button.”
Ryall, who previously raced in motocross, is fourth in the Kimbolton Club Championship and is also competing regularly at the Rye House in Hoddesdon.
“Ever since he was tiny he’s had a taste for speed. By the time he was three he was already riding a motorbike,” she said.
“He only took up karting when he was nine but before that he used to do motocross and was sixth in the British Championships.
“But it’s such a dangerous sport and we are much happier seeing him race on four wheels rather than two.”
Ryall is hoping to enter the British Carting Championship next year if he can get sponsorship.
