Runner hopes to raise funds for hospice
Thursday, 28th March 2002.
A roofer from Haverhill is looking for sponsors to support his second London Marathon run next month, in aid of the Arthur Rank Hospice in Cambridge.
David Greenham, 51, of Brybank Road, raised £1480 last year for MACS, a support group for blind children, when he completed his first marathon in a respectable three hours 45 minutes.
This year, Mr Greenham decided to help with the fundraising effort for the day centre at the hospice, in memory of his aunt Dorothy Germany and a work colleague, who both spent time there before they died.
“I had just joined the running club last year and the marathon was something I had always wanted to do. I have been doing eight to 10 miles in the morning before work a couples of days each week since January.
“Now I am building up my stamina running 18 to 20 miles. I have been working on my technique with the running club and it is going quite well,” Mr Greenham said.
Mr Greenham hopes to repeat his success in attracting sponsorship from last year and would like to raise at least £1,000 for the hospice.
Anyone who can help him should ring (01440) 714112.
