Rowdy revellers could be banned from town centre
Monday, 20th December 2010.
People engaged in disorderly behaviour over the holiday period can expect to be banned from Haverhill town centre for 48 hours by police.
Haverhill police will be using Section 27 notices, which allow them to direct an individual away from a specific area and require him or her to stay away for 48 hours.
If they then breach the notice they can be prosecuted.
Haverhill's police chief, Insp Chris Galley, warned they would be using Section 27 notices to deal with people engaged in disorderly behaviour, particularly related to alcohol.
They might require someone to stay away from the town centre or from a specific part of the area.
The first one was issued on Friday evening in the town centre.
Police said a 21-year-old man from Thetford received a caution for failing to comply with a Section 27 notice, after he was directed to leave Haverhill town centre.
