Rovers under 16s make comfortable start
Thursday, 16th September 2010.
EASTERN JUNIOR ALLIANCE UNDER 16s: Haverhill Rovers U16 EJA 4 Witham Town 0. Match report.
Rovers started their league campaign off with a comfortable victory against the league's new boys.
From the start Rovers produced a fast-flowing style of football and were soon creating chances, Gathercole and Mainland missing good chances after good work from Taylor and Clark.
The first goal came predictably from a set piece after almost constant pressure as Bailey floated in a free kick and Taylor nodded in.
Rovers nearly paid the price for not killing off their opponents when they went to sleep at a throw-in but the Witham striker shot wide.
The home side doubled their lead just after the restart when Taylor latched onto a through pass from Mainland to finish calmly.
The third came not long after when Anthony headed in a Taylor cross and Gathercole finished the scoring when his pace saw him beat the goalkeeper to the ball and tuck it into the net.
Rovers will face sterner tests this season but that takes nothing away from this great footballing show.
