Rovers Take Lyons Share
Thursday, 9th February 2006.
Substitute Darren Lyons came off the bench to net an 89th minute winner for Haverhill, who are now unbeaten in six league games.
They had the better of the first half, starting well with a shot on goal - Paul Jenkin firing over from 20 yards - in the first three minutes and three minutes later, Russell Palmer was put in by Jake Hickey, but he put his volley straight at the keeper.
The pressure paid off when Marcus Hunt side-footed home a Hickey corner on 13 minutes.
Felixstowe equalised eight minutes later, but Rovers, who almost regained the lead on 32 minutes through Ben Cowling, went ahead again two minutes later when jenkin's cross was missed by everyone bar jamie Challis, who lashed a volley into the roof of the net from 10 yards.
Lyons replaced Cowling on 62 minutes, but 10 minutes later the visitors equalised from a goalmouth scramble.
The winner came with just a minute to go, Lyons turning the last man in his own half, and homed in to beat the keeper.
Haverhill, now eighth with 47 points from 27 games, will be hoping to keep in touch with the leading pack by winning at Ely - one of the teams above them - on Saturday.
