Rovers run goes on
Thursday, 9th November 2000.
Haverhill Rovers failed to swat Swaffham as they slipped to another defeat on their travels in Division One.
It was always going to be a tough assignment for Paul Goodman's players, struggling in the bottom six, against one of the favourites for promotion.
The hosts took the lead on 15 minutes when Kevin White scored the first of his hat-trick. He shrugged off the challenge of James Fitzpatrick and blasted in.
Then on 34 minutes White doubled the lead with a superbly-executed goal. He beat two defenders before slotting the ball in.
On the hour White completed his treble from the penalty spot after Rovers keeper David Dickson was adjudged to have fouled Phillip Thompson with the player through on goal.
Two minutes later Neil Hammond set up Mark Brandt and he scored his 10th goal of the season to make it 3-1.
Rovers had their chances. Ben Cowling, Hammond, Brandt and Paul Miles all went close during the match.
The visitors thought they should have had a penalty two minutes from time when Adrian Hunt looked to have been brought down. But, much to the anger of the Haverhill supporters, the referee waved play on, completing Rovers miserable day.
