Rovers hold leaders in tight match
Thursday, 14th February 2002.
Haverhill fought out a tight goalless draw with leader Norwich United at hamlet Croft.
Chances were hard to come by in the Jewson League, Division One encounter.
United have the best defensive record in the division – they have leaked a mere 12 goals in 23 games.
While on the other hand, both Rovers and United have scored more than two goals per game this season.
Rover’s boss Paul Goodman said he thought a draw was the right result.
He said: “We kept them down to a couple of half-chances in the first half and a couple of half-chances in the second half.
“It was more exciting than the scoreline suggests. It was a very good game for the conditions. The pitch was very bobbly.
“They have the best defensive record in the league and you can see why. They kept us down to half-chances.
“we certainly created the better chances, but we could not convert them.
“It was encouraging for us because, although the result was fair, I think we just shaded it on chances.”
Home midfielder Neil Green had a shot cleared off the line after the break.
Ben Cowling had arguably the best opening of the match, but fired over after the ball bobbled.
Neil Cogger and Neil Hammond were rested ahead of this Saturday’s Suffolk Senior Cup semi-final
Cogger has been suffering with a niggling knee problem. Meanwhile, Hammond was rested due to ankle trouble.
Both are expected to be fit for this Saturday’s Suffolk Senior Cup semi-final against Leiston at Hadleigh.
But Richie Walker is unlikely to be ready in time for the last four clash against fellow Jewson Division League One Leiston at Millfield, He has a knee injury.
