Richard Spring Seeks Nominations for Local 'Hero'
Monday, 9th March 2009.
West Suffolk MP, Richard Spring is once again seeking nominations for a local ‘hero’ to join him at a National Award Ceremony at the House of Commons. The annual event, hosted by the Experience Corps, recognises the community contributions made by older volunteers.
The Experience Corps is an independent not-for-profit company which was set up in 2001 to encourage people aged 50 and over to offer their skills and experience as volunteers. All the local heroes who are nominated for these awards are being recognised for the hard work and support they give their communities through their voluntary work.
Richard said today:
“Last year I had an overwhelming response to my quest to find a local hero to join me at the House of Commons. The contribution of all those nominated was outstanding.
West Suffolk is extremely lucky to have such an active voluntary sector. I am constantly amazed at the amount of people who spend a considerable amount of their time and energy helping others. I urge everyone to nominate someone who they think deserves the recognition and thanks for their contribution. It’s a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the remarkable efforts of our older and often unsung volunteers.”
Anyone who would like to nominate their local hero should write to Richard at the House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA before 9th April 2009.
Nominees should be over 50 years old and live in the West Suffolk constituency.
