Referee misses Hayley's goal as U's are kept out
Thursday, 6th December 2001.
NEW to the league this season and having recently strengthened their squad, Haverhill U’s are still the only team to beat league leaders Peterborough.
Playing host to Cambridge Utd was always going to be a tough game and the poor condition of the pitch did no-one any favours.
Despite that both teams endeavoured to play some really entertaining football and the game was evenly balanced.
Haverhill thought they bad broken the deadlock late in the first half when Hayley Baker Clarke drove the ball home from outside the box.
The goalie carried the ball over the line. However, the referee was unsighted and disallowed the goal, even though the linesmen clearly indicated the ball had crossed the line.
That turned out to be the highlight of the match and both teams deserved to share the spoils.
