Recycling roadshow stops off in town
By Martin Chapman on Tuesday, 29th June 2004.
Recycling will be the word being spread this weekend, as the St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s recycling roadshow heads into town.
The roadshow will be held on the Recreation Ground between 10 am and 4 pm on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 July
Visitors to the roadshow will learn more about the councils various recycling schemes, including the recently added blue bin doorstep collection service.
There will also be an opportunity to to recycle cans, plastics, paper and cardboard at the show, by using the blue bins being supplied by St Edmundsbury Borough Council.
Members of the Waste Management team will be on hand to talk to visitors about any queries they may have about the blue and brown bin recycling schemes.
Councillor Jeremy Farthing, St Edmundsbury Cabinet member for the Environment said: “The roadshow is a fantastic way for people to find out more about the blue and brown bin recycling schemes as well as encouraging more people to recycle.”
He went on to say: “I’m sure that everyone would agree that we should continue to recycle more household waste which in turn reduces the amount going to landfill.“
At least 60% of rubbish collection by councils across Suffolk could be recycled.
St Edmundsbury has exceeded its legal recycling target of 33% for 2003/4 but the council has said we still need to recycle more.
