Rapid advance of internet site
Thursday, 2nd September 1999.
A HAVERHILL website which opened in mid-March has already attracted 10,000 visitors, some from as far away as the USA, United Arab Emirates and Israel.
Jason Fitzpatrick, 29, of Mount Road, launched the site as an extension of his own work as Pure Energy Entertainments, designing web sites for individuals and companies in his spare time.
He was amazed by how quickly the site grew and how many visitors it attracted.
Haverhill-UK now has the support of many of the area's businesses, as well as Haverhill Enterprise 2000, and has gained several web awards.
As well as access to Haverhill Weekly News stories, the site also has a busy chat room, kids pages, a photograph library, history pages and an events guide.
Tina Stroh from the USA traced three of her old school friends through the site and there are many others hoping to do the same in the guest book.
"The response that Haverhill-UK has received has been fantastic, and we would like to thank everyone who has visited the site.
"Remember that it's only six months old and there is plenty more to come.
"There is no doubt that this is a very positive step forward for the town.
"Haverhill has had a lot of bad press over the years, and usually from people that don't even live here.
"It's about time that a positive image of Haverhill is put forward and how better than on a web site that can be viewed all the world over," Jason said.
He is always looking for new ideas for the site which can be found at www.Haverhill-UK.com
