Rape - man arrested

Police who have arrested a man following a rape in the town are trying to trace a group of youths.
The 38-year-old man was arrested in Cambridge and taken to Parkside Police Station within the city. He has been arrested on suspicion of rape, and remains in custody while police continue their investigations.
A 23-year-old woman from Haverhill contacted police saying she has been raped on the green behind Strasbourg Square on the Chalkstone estate. The offence is said to have taken place at around 6.25 pm on Monday 17 January.
Police have said that they are keen to trace a group of around six youths. It is believed that it was a mixed sex group, who were at the scene at the time. They are reported as having tried to intervene.
Detective Sergeant Andy Smith from Haverhill CID said: "We are keen to trace this group as they may have valuable information to assist us with our enquiries, we would also like to hear from anyone who was in the area between 6.15pm and 6.45 pm, who may have witnessed any suspicious activity.
Anyone with information is asked to either call Haverhill CID on 01284 774 100 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
