Polisher finally hangs up his cloth
Thursday, 21st December 2000.
PROJECT Office Furniture, of Haverhill, has said goodbye to one of its longest-serving members of staff, Ronnie Bampton.
Mr Bampton, 65, has retired after more than 30 years of work as a polisher for the largest British-owned office furniture manufacturer.
He now intends to enjoy his new-found free time on the golf course.
Mr Bampton was a GMB Union representative and a shop steward for 20 years after joining Project in 1969.
The firm, which now employs 300 people, was owned by the Bloohn family when Mr Bampton joined.
The company subsequently became part of the Bullough Group.
He received a set of Wilson golf clubs from the company plus vouchers and a new television set from his colleagues.
"I will be taking a holiday soon and I'm looking forward to having a rest and enjoying a round or two of golf," Mr Bampton said.
