Police warning for the late night shopping crowds
Wednesday, 8th December 2010.
Haverhill police are appealing for everyone to have a safe and enjoyable Family Christmas Night on Friday evening in Haverhill, but to make sure they look after their belongings.
There have been a couple of purse thefts in the town recently, and Insp Chris Galley said this was an unusual crime in Haverhill, so people needed to be on the lookout.
"Police officers will, of course, be out and about on the evening and through the events of the weekend," he said.
The mobile police station will be positioned in the high street and any members of the public are welcome to go and talk to the officers.
Family Christmas Night will see shops staying open late, with High Street and Queen Street closed to traffic and lined with stalls and funfair rides.
The evening will be rounded off with the traditional firework display on the Recreation Ground, starting at the earlier time of 8.15pm.
