Police warn of increase in thefts from vehicles
Monday, 24th January 2011.
Haverhill police are urging drivers to be more security-conscious after a recent increase in thefts from vehicles in the town.
PC Will Wright of Haverhill Safer Neighbourhood Team said motorists were still leaving valuable items visible in their vehicles, and sometimes not even locking the vehicle up when they left it.
"It's generally electrical goods such as iPods and anything like that," he said.
"It's often when people go shopping. If you look round the supermarket car parks you can see all sorts of things left in sight - handbags, purses, keys for the house.
"We've had an increase it it over the last week and it's clear there are opportunist thieves about."
"If anyone has any knowledge of anything that might help catch them, please pass it on to us."
There have also been thefts of two motor vehicles and PC Wright urged people to secure their vehicles and not leave keys in them, otherwise they were quite likely not to be there when they got back.
