Police warn after spate of motor-bike thefts
Monday, 9th May 2011.
Police have warned motor-bike owners in Haverhill to be on their guard after a recent spate of thefts.
Half a dozen reports of stolen motor-bikes in the past couple of weeks have led police to issue a warning to owners.
Haverhill Safer Neighbourhood Team chief, Insp Chris Galley, said the message to motor-bike owners was to make sure their vehicles were secure.
The thefts have been from gardens or driveways, where owners had left their motor-bikes unlocked, and the incidents were spread across the whole town.
Insp Galley said: "We would ask owners to make sure they secure their motorcycles in garages, or lock them up, and to be vigilant around where they leave them."
Police have recovered some of the motor-bikes, and some were burnt out or stripped.
It is thought they have been stolen for off-road use, although some more powerful machines have also been stolen.
"We would like people to ring in if they hear motor-bikes being used in the wrong way," said Sgt Sarah Bartley of Haverhill SNT. "It is very likely they are stolen."
Police are planning to hold a motor-bike marking session in the near future.
