Thursday, 31st January 2002.
Police are keen to trace a man who approached a woman walking along a footpath in Haverhill on Monday night.
The 48-year-old woman was walking along Greenfields Way at about 9 pm when she became aware of a man walking behind her.
As she came to the junction worth York Road the man called out to her.
The woman ignored him and carried on her way, but moments later she felt a hand on her shoulder and the man asked her to stop.
The frightened woman screamed and activated a personal attack alarm, before running off towards Leather Lane.
The man is described as white, around 50 years old, 5 ft 6 in tall, with grey hair, wearing jeans and trainers. Police are keen to establish why the man approached the woman.
“Although no offences have been committed, the woman was left quite shaken by the incident.
“The man’s actions could have been perfectly innocent and we would urge him to contact us to clarify this point,” said PC Heidi Hieghway of Suffolk Police.
Anyone with information should contact PC Heighway at Haverhill Police Station on (01440) 774100 or Crimestoppers on freephone 0800 555 111.
