Police to be 'robust' with overspill of school bullying
Monday, 15th March 2010.
An incident in the Camps Road area of Haverhill recently came under confidential discussion at the town police's Safer Neighbourhood Team meeting last week.
The incident, on Friday, March 5, involved a large group of youngsters and resulted in one 14-year-old boy from the town being arrested on suspicion of committing a public order offence and being drunk and disorderly, and released on police bail.
Two 15-year-old boys were arrested on Wednesday last week on suspicion of committing a public order offence.
Haverhill police chief said it was a matter where bullying had continued in an out-of-school environment and had escalated into criminal acts.
The police were carrying out high-visibility patrols and were working with partner organisations to deal with the situation.
"But we want people to know we will take a robust stance on public order offences," he said. "We are taking it extremely seriously and this behaviour will not be tolerated."
