Police seek missing bits of gates
Tuesday, 20th July 2010.
Two pieces of Queen Street's new lime-leaf design gates never made it to the opening celebrations on Friday.
Two heavy steel pipes were stolen from outside Samuel Ward Arts and Technology College in Chalkstone Way, Haverhill, between June 24 and July 5.
Police are now appealing for information to help them track down the thieves and recover the missing pieces of metal.
They had been engraved to resemble bark and were due to be used as part of the Queen Street gates.
The gates themselves were at the college for several weeks while schoolchildren from all over the town, as well as volunteers from the local community spent many hours giving them their textured finish.
Calls in relation to this incident should be made to Sgt Sarah Bartley at the Haverhill Safer Neighbourhood Team on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
