Police seek evidence of dangerous dogs
Monday, 11th April 2011.
Haverhill police would like to hear from anyone who has had a problem about dangerous dogs in the Thurlow Place area of the Chalkstone estate or along the railway walk.
The issue of dangerous dogs was raised by several residents at the last public meeting of Haverhill Safer Neighbourhood Team, but it did not become one of the SNT's three priorities.
Since then other priorities have been dealt with, including parking in Shetland Road and anti-social ehaviour around the Leiston Road area.
So police are now looking to establish the extent of the dangerous dog problems.
PC Mike Potter said: "I am keen to know if anyone in the Thurlow Place area or along the railway walk has experienced anything concerning dangerous or uncontrolled dogs.
"We have not had anything much in the way of complaints of that kind from those areas, but if anyone has any perhaps they could contact me and tell me what happened, or direct me towards a particular dog-owner or dog.
"We need to get a true gauge of the issue to see how to proceed."
At the last Haverhill Town Council meeting Cllr Margaret Marks expressed surprise that the dog issue had not so far been followed up as a police priority. She had attended the SNT public meeting and heard the complaints at that time.
She said she was too frightened to use the railway walk having been attacked by dogs there.
