Police repeat zero tolerance warning after another PC is assaulted
Monday, 30th April 2012.
Another police officer has been assaulted in Haverhill last night, making six in the last six months.
PC Simon Bourne of the town's Safer Neighbourhood Team was headbutted by a 16-year-old he was trying to arrest for another offence.
Luckily, he only received a glancing blow, so was not seriously injured and will not have to have any time off.
PCSO Les Scott said it was the fact of him being assaulted at all which was a serious matter and re-iterated the policy of zero tolerance on assaults on officers which Haverhill police chief Insp Peter Ferrie issued after the last incident a few weeks ago.
The 16-year-old, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, appeared in court this morning and has been remanded to a youth court.
