Police renew alert on bogus callers

MORE BOGUS callers have been in action in the Haverhill area this week and police are renewing warnings for people to be on their guard.
Two men called at a woman’s home in Pentlow Hawke Close, Haverhill, around 1pm on Monday saving they were from the Water Board.
They said they needed to check the water as there had been a burst in the street. After they had left, it was discovered that cash had been stolen from a room at the house.
At around 2pm on the same day two men claiming to he from the Gas Board called at the home of a pensioner in Highfield, Clare. While one man engaged the woman in conversation, his accomplice went to another and stole cash.
The two men are described as being in their 20s, both had dark hair, one was wearing a shirt and trousers and the other a blue anorak.
Police are urging people to he vigilant and not let unknown callers into their homes before checking that they are genuine.
