Police plea for help to catch car vandals
Tuesday, 29th March 2011.
A continuing spate of vandalism to parked vehicles at the weekends throughout March has led to Haverhill police making a plea for information.
Over 20 incidents have been reported during the month, spreading initially from the Parkway estate across the whole of the town.
Police think someone must know who the perpetrators are, whether the attacks are random or the work of a particular group.
PC Will Wright said they were assuming the attacks were random until they could confirm otherwise.
"There has been a pattern of them occurring over the weekends," he said.
They mostly happen between 5pm and 11pm and some have been caught on CCTV but without yielding a clear enough image to identify anyone.
PC Wright said it was suspected the offenders were young and possibly in going around in a group.
The damage is mostly scratching or breaking off wing mirrors. In a recent incident obscene words were scratched on a car.
"Someone must know something," said PC Wright. "We would ask them to contact us by whatever means they wish.
"They might, for instance, have seen a group hanging around parked cars, or heard someone bragging about stuff," he said.
Anyone who can help should contact PC Wright on 01284 774100, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
