Police plea for considerate snowballing
Friday, 8th January 2010.
Police across West Suffolk are asking people to be careful when throwing snowballs.
Police say they have had numerous reports of snowball throwing, children and youths playing on icy ponds, broken down vehicles and vehicles getting stuck in snowy or icy conditions.
In the St Edmundsbury District alone there have been 25 reports of anti-social behaviour and two of criminal damage relating to snowball-throwing, and similar activities related to snow.
A police spokesman said: "While we do not wish to spoil anyone's fun during the wintery weather, we would advise anyone throwing snowballs to be mindful of other people and their property.
"We want everyone to stay safe and to enjoy the snow, but snowballs can cause injury and damage and we would encourage anyone seeing persons behaving in an anti-social manner in the snow to report this to police."
Snowfalls over the last few days have resulted in difficult driving cxonditions in some places and a series of accidents have been reported to police, although not necessarily caused by the snow.
On Wednesday there was a three-vehicle crash on the A1307 on the edge of Haverhill around 5.10pm, and about 7.30pm a vehicle collided with part of a house in Chapelwent Road, Haverhill.
Neither accident resulted in any serious injury.
