Police ask residents to be their eyes and ears
Thursday, 27th January 2011.
Haverhill police are urging residents not to be afraid to contact them if they see anything suspicious.
Officers are continuing their 'street a week' campaign where they contact everyone living in a particular street each week to ask if they have any concerns.
But PC Will Wright of Haverhill Safer Neighbourhood Team said many people he spoke to were worried about contacting police in case they may be calling them out unnecessarily.
"Any behaviour which is out of the ordinary means that it is suspicious," he said. "It might be, for example, that people hear talking outside late at night. Report it to us - that's what we are here for.
"There is a non-emergency number to ring, 01284 774100. There are 30 police officers in this town, but there is a population of over 20,000. They need to be our eyes and ears and report back to us."
