Police appeal for public's help to beat thieves
Tuesday, 12th October 2010.
Police in Haverhill are asking members of the public who live near shops or post offices to keep a lookout for thieves and burglars.
Statistically, local shops are at greater risk from thieves as the nights draw in, particularly those looking to steal cigarettes, alcohol or cash.
PCSO Chris Strahm of Haverhill Safer Neighbourhood Team appealed for any resoidents who live near to shops to contact police if they see any person or vehicle that looks suspicious.
"Nearby residents are more likely to notice if a person or a vehicle is suspicious," he said.
"But on the personal safety side we also urge that members of the public should not approach suspicious vehicles or people.
"They should jot down a description and any other useful information. In the case of a vehicle they should not the colour, make and registration number if possible and, if it leaves, the direction of travel.
"But in no circumstances should they put themselves in personal jeopardy.
"Shop and post office robberies are, thankfully, infrequent events in this area and we want to keep it that way."
