Playgroup hands over harvest gifts to town's foodbank
Tuesday, 16th October 2012.
Staff and children of Happy Faces Playgroup in Haverhill have handed over the produce collected for their harvest celebrations to Haverhill Foodbank.
On Tuesday morning staff were joined Cllr Maureen Byrne, chair of Lamp-H, and deputy town mayor Cllr Roger André to handover the harvest gifts to Suzanne Bumford and Mary Thake, volunteers who sort and pack the food parcels for Haverhill Foodbank.
Leader of Happy Faces Elaine Hatfield said: “The children have collected cans and other non-perishable food items for our Harvest Table. We have been learning about the production of food.
"It is encouraging to see young children beginning to understand that others may not be as advantaged as them and to allow them to discover where their food comes from.”
Cllr Byrne said: “With our youngest residents being taught to appreciate the sources of their meals and to understand the value of supporting others in our community, it is clear that Happy Faces is promoting community values – an investment in the future of Haverhill.
"This outstanding centre is a valuable resource to local residents. The excitement and enthusiasm from the young people is an inspiration. ”
