CALLS for more CCTV cameras in Haverhill are unlikely to be answered for two years, because the system for the whole borough is due to be replaced by a new digital one in 2005.
A group of Haverhill Town Councillors wrote to Home Secretary David Blunkett calling for more cameras, following a number of rape and indecent assault cases over the past year.
But a committee meeting yesterday agreed to the recommendations of a CCTV Review Panel that priority should be given to the planned replacement of the existing system, rather than providing additional mobile cameras in the meantime.
