Planning meeting due to hear about Project site cancelled
Wednesday, 6th April 2011.
A meeting at which Haverhill Town Councillors were due to hear details of the new plans to develop the former Project site has had to be cancelled because not enough members were able to attend.
Haverhill Town Council's monthly planning meeting last night - the last one before next month's elections - was cancelled at only a few hours' notice.
Some members of the public who wanted to comment on one of the planning applications listed on the agenda attended because the cancellation was only notified to councillors.
The Martin Robeson Planning Practice were due to make a presentation about the former Project site, now called Hamlet Green, on behalf of developers Howard Haverhill Ltd, part of HPG.
The town council's objections to HPG's previous application last year were one of the reasons for its controversial refusal by St Edmundsbury Borough Council's planning committee.
Since then some members have had a re-think and the Labour group has stated that it had changed its mind.
The new plans are similar, in that they include a builders' merchants for Wickes, a fast food restaurant, thought to be for McDonalds, and 11 start-up business units.
Instead of four shops, limited to selling bulky goods, the new plans allow for three, plus nine 'trade warehouses'.
The presentation has now been postponed to another meeting.
The town council is a consultee on nthe application and will pass its comments on to the borough council for consideration in making its final decision.
