Place Court online petition up and running

Monday, 31st January 2011.

Haverhill Town Council's online petition to save Place Court care home in Haverhill from being sold off is now up and running.

Independent town councillor Margaret Marks is urging residents to sign, because 500 signatures would bring about a public meeting.

Cllr Marks said: "Suffolk County Council is planning to sell off all its Care Homes. Place Court is one of the only homes which provides essential respite care in Haverhill.

"It has a wonderful reputation for the level of care it provides and we are concerned that this building will not be of the type and age that will be attractive to private owners.

"With a growing elderly population there will be a greater need for such establishments. There is already a shortage in Haverhill.

"We need at least 500 signatures to ask for a public meeting. Please help us to achieve this by going on to the website and signing
the petition."

The place to go to sign is: http://petitions.web-labs.co.uk/suffolkcc/public/PETITIO--TO-RETAI--PLACE-COURT--HAVERHILL-AS-A-SUFFOLK-COU-TY-COU-CIL-MA-AGED-CARE-HOME

Sir,
My 93 year-old mother was living alone at Brandon but receiving 4 carer visits every day. Living in South Cambridgeshire it was a 70 mile round trip to visit her. Because she needed 24 hour care she was allocated a place at Place Court which is some 10 miles from where I live. Not being familiar with care homes (which sometimes get negative press) I was a little apprehensive about the move. I need not have worried.

Place Court turned out to be wonderful home for my mother to be in. It cannot be faulted in any respect. The staff are first class
as is the treatment my mother is receiving. Within a matter of 10 days her wellbeing and outlook improved 100%.

TO ALL THE STAFF AT PLACE COURT - A BIG THANK YOU.

A. Loates Hildersham, Cambridgeshire
