Pint-a-year effort wins donor award
Thursday, 21st December 2000.
A WOMAN has just given her 71st pint of blood and received a special award.
Jean Buckton, who has just turned 70 and lives in Elmdon Place, Haverhill, received an engraved crystal plate from the National Blood Transfusion Service in recognition of her loyalty and dedication.
Miss Buckton, who worked at Bates, Ellison and Morris solicitors in Haverhill for almost 30 years, has to stop giving blood now that she is 70. She gave blood for 40 years and recently celebrated her milestone birthday with a trip to London and a ride on the London Eye.
Miss Buckton started giving blood when she lived in London at a hospital on her way to work, with the blood used for renal operations that day. She has continued to give regularly ever since, except for a short break through illness.
