Pilbrow aims high
Thursday, 9th December 1999.
DANIEL Pilbrow makes his international debut this weekend - with his sights set already on further success.
The 17-year-old Haverhill sixth-former swims for England in the Three Nations Junior International Championships against Germany and Italy at Cambridge's Parkside Pools.
And he hopes a strong showing in the 200m butterfly on the second morning of the two-day meet, will earn him pre-selection for the Six Nations gala at Easter and put him in the reckoning for the European Junior Championships next summer.
Already the top-ranked swimmer in England in his age group for his specialist event, he goes into the race in good form.
He set his personal best of 59.80 sec for the 100m butterfly while swimming for his West Suffolk club in the Speedo League at the weekend.
Now he hopes to slash a massive two seconds off his best for the longer distance on Sunday morning.
"My PB is 2:06.3, but I'd like to go 2:04," he said. "I think I can do that."
He is joined in the 32-strong England squad by City of Cambridge's Chris Tidley, swimming in his home pool.
