Party by royal appointment for Christine
Thursday, 7th March 2002.
SIXTH former Christine Dean will rub shoulders with royalty when she goes to the Queen's annual garden party in July.
A-level student Christine, 17, a pupil at Castle Manor Upper School, Haverhill, does voluntary work through the town's Association of Voluntary Organisations.
Christine will represent the Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk at Buckingham Palace, after being nominated by Linda Gower, the county's Director of Social Service. She will take fellow pupil Simone De Lima along for company.
Her voluntary work has included being a helper at the Haverhill Gateway Club for adults with disabilities. At school she has been a main organiser of the annual Norman talent show, which has raised hundreds of pounds for charity.
Christine, of Exeter Court, and her friends are now raising funds for a properly printed school yearbook and invite help from local firms.
Christine, who hopes to become a psychologist, said: "I am nervous and excited about going to the garden party. I think there will be a lot of people there so I am not sure if I will get to meet the Queen. I am looking forward to it and I was very pleased to be asked."
