Pair raising thousands from charity cycle ride
Friday, 24th May 2013.
Two Haverhill men will be cycling over 350 miles next week, raising thousands of pounds for charity.
Adam Mepham and Nick Webster are taking part in the Three Cities bike ride which travels from Stratford in East London to Harwich, ferry to Hook of Holland, then to Amsterdam, Turnhout and Brussels before returning via Eurostar.
Eighty riders in all are taking part, six of them in a group co-ordinated from Motonovo, the finance company Adam works for.
One of his colleagues had to drop out so he persuaded a frind of his, photographer Nick Webster to take his place at the last minute.
So far the group of six has raised over £11,000 for the charity MS Support, chosen by Adam in memory of a victim of MS who died recently, Michael Hughes, son of Haverhill Methodist Church former minister the Rev Penry Hughes.
Adam, perhaps best known in Haverhill for his portrayal of Captain Von Trapp in Centre Stage Company's production of The Sound Of Music last October, said he had lost two stone by training for the bike ride.
He and Nick now have big plans to try cycling from land's End to John o'Groats for charity next year.
Motonovo have donated £2,000 plus time out of his work to train, and the three days the ride will take. They start from Stratford on Wednesday next week.
