Orchestra picks some shorter classics
Thursday, 12th November 2009.
Haverhill-based professional orchestra, the Arnold Sinfonia, returns to the platform at Haverhill Arts Centre on Sunday evening with a programme of music for strings.
The orchestra, successor to the long-established Haverhill Sinfonia and now made up entirely of professional musicians, gives three major classical concerts per year, plus a summer programme, in the town.
Conducted by Kevin Hill, Sunday's programme is made up of a variety of shorter pieces including Holst's Brook Green Suite, Delius' Two Aquarelles, Copland's Quiet City, Lennox Berkely's rarely heard Serenade, a tribute in the style of Mozart, and Alan Rawsthorne's Light Music.
The finale will be Richard Strauss's magical Metamorphosen for 23 eolo strings.
Soloists for the concert will be Daniel Bates (cor anglais) and Cameron Todd (trumpet).
The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £10 (concessions £6 and £2) available on the door or from Haverhill Arts Centre box office on 01440 714140.
