On-demand bus service launched
Saturday, 4th September 2010.
A new on-demand bus service for villages west of the A143, and including Haverhill, has been launched by Suffolk County Council.
Residents can ring 0845 6041802 from 8am to 4pm from Monday to Friday to book a journey, either to a required destrination or to a bus or rail link that will get them where they need to go.
There is also a website, www.suffolkonboard.com where you can find out more and book a journey.
Journeys will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, by a single bus with a capacity of 11 seats or three wheelchair and three seats.
Haverhill county councillor Anne Gower said it was a litt bit like the Dial-a-ride service.
"I think we need to give it a chance and see how it works," she said.
"At the moment it is not same day bookings as they promised, but they have said it will be by the end of the month, and by then the booking hours will be extended to 8am to 6pm as well."
