Objections Slow Road Plans
Thursday, 5th June 2003.
A SCHEME to modify an estate's speed humps now looks unlikely to go ahead as planned on Monday after objections from residents.
Speed cushions, which were installed last year to replace traditional humps, have attracted criticism from residents on the Chalkstone Estate in Haverhill, who say the gaps between them are too great and traffic just speeds around them.
Three people have now raised concerns over a proposal to modify them.
A spokesman for St Edmundsbury Borough Council said officers are now in the process of trying to resolve these, but as there were a range of different objections, it looked unlikely this would be possible before next week, when the work was due to start.
If the objections cannot be resolved, the issue will be referred back to councillors to decide if the scheme should go ahead. This would take place at the next Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, July 1.
