Nut Factory To Bring New Jobs
By Jo Deeks on Thursday, 18th March 2004.
Peanut firm Percy Dalton hopes to be operating from a brand new factory in Haverhill by next year, after receiving planning permission for a site at the Haverhill Business Park.
Developer Carisbrooke and the well-known processor and packer of dried fruit and nuts, Percy Dalton's famous Peanut Company Ltd, are celebrating after planning consent was received for their 79,000 sq ft headquarters and manufacturing facility at the 64-acre park.
Percy Dalton's is relocating from Bow in East London to expand its business.
The relocation will create a significant number of jobs in the area and its objective is to capitalize on the opportunities stemming from a purpose-build factory with modern equipment. The site also provides the opportunity for any future expansion.
Carisbrooke's development director Paul Bird said:"We are delighted that planning has been achieved. We anticipate that construction will start on site within the next two months and it is scheduled for completion in 2005.
"The town will now see more activity on the business park, which we hope will demonstrate our commitment to making Haverhill Business Park a success and a number one location for other businesses.
"It is an exciting time for us at Haverhill - an extensive landscaping programme is well under way and soon the new road will be open to the public."
Haverhill Business Park has the potential for around one million sq ft of mixed use development, including industrial warehousing, offices and research and development ventures.
The parks location, on the Suffolk and Essex boundary, is attracting strong interest from occupiers in most of the surrounding commercial centres including Braintree, Chelmsford and Cambridge as well as some companies looking to relocate out of London.
Letting agents for the site are Cambridge based Carter Jonas and London based Rumsey and Partners.
