No Tory nominated in town council election
Wednesday, 11th December 2013.
The Conservatives will not be attempting to hang on to the town council seat which was held by former mayor Cllr Les Ager, who died in October.
In January there will be two elections in the Haverhill East ward, for the St Edmundsbury Borough Council and Haverhill Town Council seats which Cllr Ager held.
He was a Conservative, but when nominations closed on Monday it was revealed the Tories are not even putting up a candidate for the town council vacancy.
It will be a three-way contest between UKIP, in the form of Suffolk county councillor Tony Brown, Ken Rolph for the Lib Dems and Liz Smith for Labour.
The borough election will see Tony Brown up against David Roach for the Tories, Ken Rolph for the Lib Dems and Pat Hanlon for Labour.
The last town council election, held in the summer, saw UKIP capture the seat from the Tories.
