No escape for road tax dodgers

"No exceptions, no excuses and no escape" is the hard hitting message being sent out today with the launch of a joint initiative at a catching road tax dodgers.
The operation which launched today with a publicity campaign will be followed in two weeks by
A new free phone number has been setup for members of the public to report vehicles with out of date tax discs. The number is 08000 325 202.
From Monday 12 July the agencies will be operating roadside checkpoints using automatic number plate recognition.
In the past this system has led to the arrest if burglars, drug dealers and people who have previously been banned from driving.
During the same period the DVLA will be clamping vehicles which are found without a valid tax disc. Ultimately these vehicles could be crushed.
According to government figures Suffolk is home to over 25,000 unlicensed vehicles which is losing the government over £2.5 million.
