Nightclub owners celebrate success
Thursday, 14th March 2002.
Owners of Haverhill’s Rush nightclub are celebrating turning its fortunes around less than six months after they took over.
Hannah Solomons and Scott Murray, from Market Harborough in Leicestershire, took over the club last October, when attendances had dwindled and its reputation had reached rock bottom.
Although they had both worked in the industry for several years, it was the couple’s first venture running their ‘own club. They had urged local youngsters to support them so that the club would not be lost to the town.
Last Saturday, the club had one of its busiest nights to date, hosting a visit by DJs from radio station VibeFM.
Mr Murray said it had been a slow process of improving the look of the club and building up trade, but this seemed to be paying off now.
“The club has really turned around. We had a fairly successful Christmas, but in February and March we have seen figures really grow. We have been regularly seeing 300 to 400 on a Friday and in excess of 700 on Saturday, almost up to capacity.
“It was the first time we had used Vibe DJs and we got a very good response. We are starting to get it known across East Anglia that the club has changed. Hopefully we can go on pleasing everyone in the town and raise the profile so that people are prepared to travel here,” Mr Murray said.
