New route for Good Friday procession
Friday, 22nd April 2011.
A new route for the Good Friday procession of witness attracted a sizeable crowd of Christians from the various churches in Haverhill to mark their most solemn day of the year.
Traditionally the procession has assembled at the Old Independent Church and marched down the high street to the market square.
This year the initial service was held at the West End Congregational Church in Withersfield Road and afterwards the procession formed up behind a large cross which was carried past the Cangle Junction and along Queen Street to the market square.
On the square Haverhill Churches Together held a service which included readings of the Good Friday story which were also acted out, interspersed with hymns and an address from the missioner at St Mary's Church, Capt Andrew Payne.
