New railings for the Pightle in the pipeline
Thursday, 24th March 2011.
Town councillors have decided not to help fund new railings for The Pightle and Lordscroft Lane.
Suffolk County Council has come forward with a plan to replace the old railings and asked if the town council would contribute.
But members were sure that money had been contributed towards new railings from the Tesco development.
Town clerk Gordon Mussett said the county council had informed them it intended to replace the railings which were 'in a poor state of repair'.
But the replaceents had to be sturdy because they protected pedestrians on the pavement from a considerable drop into the Stour Brook.
The scheme would enhance the streetscape, but members directed the county council to St Edmundsbury Borough Council which had received the cash from Tesco at the time the store was built, and declined to contribute.
