New police station opening hours decided
Wednesday, 10th November 2010.
The opening hours of police stations across Suffolk is to change from December 1, and Haverhill's will become 9am to 5pm each day.
Suffolk Constabulary says the new opening hours mean that the public will continue to have good access to police station enquiry desks, while resources are used more efficiently to suit the demand they face.
The stations will remain fully operational, with the changes to opening hours affecting only the public enquiry desks.
The changes will not affect the availability of police officers to respond to emergency incidents 24 hours a day, seven days a week on 01473 613500 for non emergency calls. In an emergency, always dial 999.
In the current financial climate, Suffolk Constabulary says it is facing unprecedented demands to make financial savings and it is crucial that all resources are used in the most effective manner, while continuing to provide essential services to the public.
The changes allow the police to align opening hours to the demand they face, while maintaining an essential presence within local communities in the form of their 'valued and knowledgeable' front desk staff.
Police stations across the county have been organised into ‘tiers’ depending on the amount of visitors they receive on a daily basis.
Following extensive consultation with the public and with staff, new opening hours for each ‘tier’ have been agreed. Haverhill is a second tier station, defined as based in mid-sized towns and receiving a medium level of visitors.
