New nursery to meet rising demand for childcare
Thursday, 22nd August 2002.
A NEW day nursery is to open at Haverhill in September, aiming to help meet rising demand for childcare facilities.
Dizzy's Day Nursery has been set up by Liz Jones, who runs Backup Childcare, providing nannies and au pairs for local families.
Abigail Hinton will manage the nursery, based in specially adapted premises at Hollands Road with a staff of 10.
Ms Jones received help and support from county councillor Maggie Lee in setting up the nursery. It will be equipped for nearly 40 children aged three months to school age.
Families are already signing children up for places and it is planned to hold open days to let people see what is on offer.
Ms Jones said she would take care of business and administration and also planned to have hands-on involvement, such as cooking organic meals for the children.
"I have worked in nurseries in the UK and abroad and Abigail has worked in management at other nurseries. I have been running the childcare recruitment business for three years and realised there was not enough childcare available."
Coun Lee, who has campaigned for more childcare facilities in Haverhill for several years, said she had been more than happy to support Ms Jones.
"I am really pleased it is opening and hope she is successful. When this one is full I think we are going to need more facilities. It is also about choice and being able to fit it in around your working life plans," Coun Lee said.
Anyone interested in reserving a place or visiting the nursery should ring (01440) 706246.
