New leader pays tribute

Thursday, 3rd June 1999.

Haverhill Town Council has a new leader, Coun Maggie Lee, but is losing Town Clerk Lois Stock who has been in post since it was formed 10 years ago.
Mrs. Stock is moving to Buckinghamshire where her husband has a new job and will officially end her duties on July 9, although she does not expect to leave the town until later in the summer.
The town council started off with meetings around Mrs. Stock's dining table and has grown to control a budget of around £100,000
I have enjoyed it, they have been very interesting times.
"After 10 years I shall also be sad to leave East Anglia, I have really liked it," Mrs. Stock said.
Tributes were paid to her at the Council's Annual General Meeting, by new leader Coun Maggie Lee, who said they were very sorry to lose her.
Coun Larry Kiernan said Mrs. Stock had been a very efficient, effective Town Clerk, who certainly knew her job.
Coun Lee stepped down as Town Mayor and the office will now be held by coun Angela Millar, with Coun Lee as Deputy Mayor. Coun Gerry Kiernan will become deputy leader of the Town Council.
