New history exhibition hails Haverhill's past
Friday, 23rd August 2013.
Haverhill Local History Group yesterday launched their latest exhibition, entitled Hail Haverhill Hail, at the Arts Centre.
The exhibition has been put together to show off some of the huge collection of artefacts and documents about the town which the history group cares for.
It was opened by the group’s president, Christopher Gurteen, who thanked the numerous sponsors who had enabled the group to continue after its grant was axed by St Edmundsbury Borough Council earlier this year.
Town mayor Cllr Roger Andre who urged people to come and visit the exhibition which, he said, showed Haverhill at its finest. He said the community was very lucky to be able to see the artefacts and documentary ephemera the group held at almost any time, thanks to the work of its many volunteers.
The exhibition has information displays about education, shopping, pastimes, community, wartime and several other areas of life, accompanied by photographs and artefacts from the 19th and 20th centuries.
