New format for SNT public meetings to be launched
Wednesday, 6th November 2013.
The next Safer Neighbourhood Team public forum will take a different format after the last one produced police priorities which the town's police chief was unhappy with.
September's public forum saw illegal High Street parking once again chosen as a police priority when Insp Peter Ferrie has many times said their action can have no effect on offenders, while other issues, which he considered more serious and more practicable, were not voted for.
Insp Ferrie had a meeting with SNT chairman Tim Marks, county councilloor Tony Brown, town clerk Will Austin, regular SNT attender John Burns and Aaron Luccarini, who will be live-streaming future meetings so they can be seen at home on people's computers.
Insp Ferrie said it would be open to people to put forward potential priorities online and to vote on line by going to www.haverhillvote.co.uk where the live streaming can be seen.
At the next meeting on December 9, the new format will be launched. From now on, meetings will be in the Arts Centre and peoploewill fill in forms on arrival putting forward suggestions.
These will then be filtered by Insp Ferrie and Cllr Marks, who will merge similar ones and then supervise voting in the hall and on line via Twitter and the e-mail feed.
There will be 30 minutes allowed for public discussion, and for Twitter comments to be included.
"Hopefully we will get better priorities which are more achievable," Insp Ferrie said.
