New careline launched to give the vulnerable peace of mind
Wednesday, 19th October 2011.
Suffolk Careline, a new service that will enable vulnerable Suffolk residents to call for immediate assistance at the touch of a button, was launched yesterday by Suffolk County Council.
Clients can have the choice of who responds to their call, either a relative or friend or a qualified member of the Suffolk Careline staff immediately on the phone.
The service is available 24 hours a day seven days a week and aims to respond in person within 45 minutes.
If the nature of the call is more serious the emergency services can also be dispatched.
The phased launch will see South Suffolk benefit from the new service this month, shortly to be followed by West and North Suffolk.
Suffolk Careline is a social enterprise - community interest company - that has been established in conjunction with a provider from the private Telecare Sector.
A key requirement of the community interest company is that any profit made by the company is invested back into the service and used to benefit the people of Suffolk.
Suffolk County Council and a not-for-profit organisation called Community Voice Limited are partners in the business and have both invested in Suffolk Careline.
Suffolk Careline service is designed to compliment other public sector services already in operation such as the primary care trusts and the East of England Ambulance Trust.
Mel Cassedy, Suffolk County Council’s strategic business manager for adult and community services said: “I am so pleased to see the launch of Suffolk Careline. We have consistently been told that older people want to remain at home for as long as possible but to do this they need to feel safe and secure.
“Our vision has been to provide a service that will give the re-assurance and peace of mind that when something goes wrong, appropriate help is at hand”
Wayne Bennett has recently had a Suffolk Careline monitoring system installed in his elderly mother's home and said: “I want to thank Suffolk Careline for their ultra quick response in setting up a personal alarm system for my elderly mother.
“This service has given my mother and us as a family a great deal of comfort and peace of mind.”
The service will help to increase and maintain a person’s level of independence for longer. The service is suitable for anyone but will be of particular importance to older people, people living alone, other vulnerable adults, as part of a care package, and family carers who want some additional support.
